UCF Scholarships

Hey everyone! I was accepted in UCF in October and plan on going there for fall 2k17 (OOS)! I also got accepted into the honors college a few days ago, but now the urging question must be brought forth: What about the UCF scholarships such as Knight's Achievement and so on? Does anyone know if the school has been sending these scholarships out yet? I've seen that they started in mid-November in 2015, so should I assume the same for this year? Thanks.

Tuition Exchange

Hi all, this is my first time posting. I am currently a Freshman at Saint Johns U in Queens. I am looking to transfer to Fordham only if I am able to receive a Tuition Exchange scholarship. Does anyone have experience with TE as a transfer or just in general? I am curious as to what they are looking for since I did not receive TE from SJU last year.

A scholarship application asked me if I am eligible for tuition exchange. I googled it but couldn't find a clear answer. How would I know if I'm eligible? FYI I'm applying as a freshman and requesting financial aid.

FAFSA/Financial Aid Dealine Questions

I started back to school this Fall semester, I signed up a little late (a few weeks before classes started), but the FAFSA was able to go through and I was awarded some Pell Grant. I had my Award Letter in my e-mail which I must have deleted at some point, so I can't look on that for verification right no. I assume when we were quickly going through the process the school automatically accepted the grant to pay for my tuition so I wouldn't be dropped. There's still about 6 weeks left of classes and I'm starting to feel like I should take out a portion of federal loans to help with the rest of expenses after tuition and books. We never discussed any loans, just tried to get it taken care of to begin classes. I assume all I need to do is fill out a loan application and give it to FA at the school? Is it too late or is there still time? I read up on my school that for federal loans have to submit the application form and it's processed within 3 days, does that mean I still have time to have the loan go in for the Fall semester or would it just go to the Spring semester?

New to Understanding College Financial Aid Procedures

Hey all, I'm new to all this with my first son going to college next year. We just put in for early decision and filled the CSS-profile and the FAFSA stuff on the net. I was curious how we see what the results of each will be. The early decision was for one school and if he doesn't get in we have 10 more schools listed in the css profile and fafsa to register during regular-decision. Net price calculator doesn't seem very accurate when trying slightly different numbers. How and when do we find out about the results of the fin-aid/css for the early decision. Also, how and when do we find out about the results of the fin-aid/css for the regular decisions.

CSS Profile and List of Colleges

At the beginning of filling out CSS Profile, it asks you to list the colleges you want the financial data to be sent to with $16 fee for each school. Since we want to complete this for the Early Action college with the deadline of Nov. 1, we only requested one college for the report to be sent to. Obviously, the thinking is that we don't need to pay for, say, 10 other colleges should we get accepted into the EA college. Should the admissions decision (early to mid Dec) is negative, then we can still return to CSS Profile and list other RD colleges, right?

He says that because we will not qualify for any financial aide we should wait and see what offers come in and compare them. I was looking forward to the higher admit rates and thought my son should select a first choice for Ed. He is a junior. would be for next fall.

DACA student need help

I am a DACA student and I wanted to file my TASFA and FAFSA. My parents are immigrants from Mexico and have never filed taxes because they're afraid they will get deported. My dad is an electrician and makes about 58k a year and my mom is a stay-at-home mom. I do not know what to do about my situation and I do not want to talk to my councilors because I feel like they will judge my parents. I am going to visit UNT and I want to have everything done by then. How can I file for at least FAFSA without needed my parents file return? Also, I work 2 jobs and make about 500 a paycheck and was wondering if I could use that instead.

Hi everyone, I am an international student from a non-english speaking country and i am currently filing the IDOC. It requests a copy of my custodial parent's tax returns. I have a pdf of my country's equivalent which is not in english. on the FAQs it says "Directly on the form, translate into English the name of the form and next to each currency value write a brief English translation of what the value represents. There is no need to translate instructions or other materials. Failure to translate non-English documents may result in delays in processing your financial aid information." What does it mean? Can somebody please help me understand how exactly to translate these documents?

Due to financial concerns, D is looking at attending UMSL or community college the first two years, then transferring to Webster. Anyone have experience with how smooth this transition goes with credits transferring, adjusting to WU environment/work load in studio art, etc.? One of their professors gave the impression art student burnout was higher with transfer students.

What is an example of a "No Financial Aid for You" Annual Salary?

I know there are many different moving parts with the CSS. But roughly. about how much is too much annual salary to get need-based aid? $150,000, $200, 000, $250, 000, ...? The family has significant savings, (worked hard for those) and a significant annual salary.

CSS Profile - Stepmom vs. bio mom?

$

Hi, all. I'm currently scrambling to fill out my CSS profile and I need clarification on a couple of things. I've looked at many (sometimes conflicting) sources on this issue and I can't wrap my head around it. My biological mom abandoned me when I was less than a month old. My father and I have had absolutely 0 contact with her since then. She hasn't even paid child support. We have tried to contact her in the last month, and we can't even find where she lives now. For all intents and purposes, she is not a part of my life in any way. My dad has been married to my stepmom for the last eight or so years, and they have been separated for the last few months. My stepmom has told me in no uncertain terms that she won't be providing for my college education, and that she wants very little to do with the remainder of my life. Despite this, I consider her to be my mother, and she is Parent 2 on my Common App. (Additional Information clarifies that she is not bio mom) Here lies my issue. My stepmom refuses to cooperate with my dad on pulling the information together required to fill out the CSS profile. Since she makes a lot less than my dad, this is more inconvenient than anything else. It's not like she's going to inflate the income all that much. Which of the following courses of action would be best for me to take? 1. Dad guesstimates stepmom's numbers and they "jointly" fill out CSS, request non-custodial waiver for bio mom 2. Dad fills out CSS independently, stepmom fills out non-custodial profile, non-factor bio mom addressed in clarification (what I'm currently leaning toward) 3. Dad fills out CSS independently, stepmom fills out non-custodial, bio mom not even mentioned (would be easiest since we wouldn't have to try to find my dad's attorney from all the way back in 1999 and also don't have to worry about missing a deadline because of a school's waiver processing time, but my dad is very concerned that I could get in trouble/become ineligible for aid if it is learned that this was omitted) I'd really appreciate the help. This CSS situation has been a nightmare and it's reached the point where I'm terrified that a mistake like forgetting about my biological mom (whose last name we don't even know anymore) could potentially keep me from attending a private university. My dad can't afford to pay for my education without institution need-based aid and it would kill him if his unfortunate and confusing personal life kept me from going to my dream school.

Someone please help!

I'm an undocumented student and so are my parents. And I was filling out the CSS Profile yesterday when I noticed that on the tax returns, my dad listed his income around half of what he actually makes. He said that he couldn't afford to pay everything because we don't get benefits and stuff. How should I do the CSS and FAFSA? Should I write down what's on the tax returns and then explain in the comment section where we talk about special situations that my dad makes more than he put down for taxes and then list his actual income (which is in cash because he's not a legal citizen or permanent resident)? (My mom doesn't work)

rant about financial aid

warning - Don't read this if you don't want to hear a lot of whining. I'm so annoyed at college fin aid. It hits the middle class the hardest and there's nothing to do about it. Poor people don't have to pay much at many schools, and rich people can afford to pay outrageous tuition costs, but colleges expect middle class people to contribute an unfair amount. I have no interest in graduating with a ton of debt but I also don't really want to go to a state school. IT'S NOT FAIR!!! I'm going to apply to some private schools anyway and see what they offer...
