Which schools have HUGE ASSURED scholarships available whose merit deadlines have not yet passed

Please include links to the awards! Specifically looking for schools giving ASSURED huge awards to CURRENT SENIORS with ACT 32+ and strong/high GPAs. Of course, if you know of HUGE awards for lower stats, that’s fine, too! Merit must be assured for stats. Deadline for merit awards AND admission application must not yet have passed. Merit must be HUGE...such as free tuition or more. Must be 4 year colleges....anywhere in the US. Thank you!

Does announcing a commitment early sabotage matching of financial aid for Ivy?

Hi, new to this forum and can't seem to find the answers anywhere. I have a daughter in grade nine that has been approached by a few Ivy league and non Ivy league coaches. She wants to commit to an Ivy league. We are afraid to make her verbal commitment public because we know that the Ivy league schools will match financial aid and we don't know what proof is required to make sure this happens. Is her minor league coach verifying phone calls enough to prove there was interest? We don't want to push other schools away and then find out three years later that we can't afford the first school because they won't match. Anyone with insight in this matter?

NCP Waiver Petition and some NCP Questions

$

1. Many schools which meet need require CSS NCP information. If one isn’t able to provide that info, they could try filing the NCP waiver petition. How does the college verify the accuracy of the information stated on the NCP waiver petition, how do they get to know that the applicant/family has provided the actual true facts? Is it through a 3rd party statement or an internal investigation or do they track the NCP somehow using public records and contact the NCP directly to verify if that’s true, how and what way do they verify the waiver? 2. How does the college verify the amounts the applicant enters in the waiver petition against child support provided? Does the applicant need to submit bank statements, if it was a direct transfers and checks in case checks were issued by NCP? 3. If the child is above 18 and faced medical exigencies and that the hospital bills were paid by the NCP using indirect transfer directly to the hospital (means the NCP provided the bill amount to a 3rd person and that person paid it to the hospital), then does that amount paid for treatment/hospital count towards child support, even though the divorce decree didn’t require it and that the child was now an adult, a major? The hospital is located outside the US, if it helps and it was the willingness or push from the custodial parent to help pay entirely for the medical bills. 4. If the NCP transferred a few hundred dollars only once the past year to the custodial parent of their child even after the child turned above 18, does that count towards child support? Or what is that called? 5. What happens in a hypothetical case where the applicant gets accepted along with the waiver, but the NCP contacts the college after few months or year(s) after getting to know about their child’s education status from social media and prove otherwise to the college? 6. Many colleges requiring the CSS NCP info require a 3rd party document and many among them require it to be notarized. If the applicant is currently outside the US, can it be notarized by a foreign notary, sufficing the requirement? 7. If the NCP had contacted the custodial parent the past year and not the child, does that count towards being a valid contact between the NCP and the applicant, even though the applicant didn’t establish contact with the NCP?

Financial aid unlikely?

We make just over 150 K, our apartment is worth over $2 million (bought 25 years ago in NYC). Any chance at Financial Aid from a good LAC or should we just assume we're not getting anything? Happy that $ goes to more deserving students but trying to figure out how to make this work for our Junior and what to consider. No other kids in college (yet). Thanks.

FAFSA and illegal parents

I was trying to file my FAFSA and came upon a problem that I can't seem to find no one else has. Both my parents are undocumented and I put 0s for their socials on the form. My mom doesn't work but my dad does and he files taxes with his ITIN I believe. I put in all his tax information however, I get to a part where I get the following message. Error The following error(s) have occurred: You reported that the Parent 1 (Father's/Mother's/Stepparent's) Social Security Number (SSN) is all zeroes (000-00-0000), and the Parent 2 (Father's/Mother's/Stepparent's) SSN is blank or all zeroes. You also reported that the parents' tax return status is filed or will file, and the tax return type is not a foreign tax return. What should I do? Edit: I think I figured it out. This time it let me submit it for some odd reason.

My parents are not U.S. citizens and they don't live here; issue with FAFSA?

Hello. I am seeking financial aid, but I have stumbled upon a problem. My parents don't live here in the U.S. They have never lived here. I currently live with a relative in the U.S. that provides me only with shelter, as I receive money directly from my parents for everything else. The issue is that they have a visa and frecuently visit me (They come from Mexico) and they do not want to sign my FAFSA application in fear of losing their visas. Has anyone ever encounter a problem as such? I have been unable to find much information. I really don't want to miss this great opportunity but I don't want to mess up their visa status. I hope I've made myself clear.

Cost of Attendance Question

So, I have a quick question: Since my parents were never married, the net price calculator is inaccurate for us as they live in different states and are not together. I live with my mom, and my dad lives on the east coast. I've already filed my FAFSA, so now I'm moving on to the CSS profile. Whenever I use the net price calculator and combine their income together, most give an estimate of $20k that we'd have to pay out of pocket. Their income is around $100k if added together this way. Whenever I run my parent's financials separately, the cost of attendance is drastically reduced...almost to 10k as my EFC (from my mom's income) for the FAFSA is around 3000. With my dad's income, his efc is around $8k as he makes $70k. The calculators on the website say to run both incomes separately as they have separate taxes, households, etc. and then to add the costs together to see what I'll have to pay. Is the 10k cost of attendance closer to what I'll have to pay? My mom can afford $10k if that's accurate, but not the 19k if our incomes are ruled together. I've already applied to financial safeties, but I wanted to see which situation is the most accurate as two of my schools require the non-custodial CSS form. Thanks!

Financial Aid for International students at Carnegie Mellon University

Hi, I am currently interested in Carnegie Mellon University. However, after doing some research, it appears to me that CMU does not offer Financial Aid for international students!!! I also see that CMU suggests some external links called Opportunities for International students but I'm not sure if they offer a lot of scholarships or not. Do you know if there are any cases where international students attend CMU with ~half of the tuition? Or it is impossible for international students to attend CMU without paying full tuition? Thank you!

Decision-making experiences if/when an ED acceptance comes with disappointing financial aid ?

Does anyone have any experiences (or advice) regarding a potential situation where an ED acceptance comes with disappointing financial aid? My kid has applied ED2 to what is by far the top choice college (an expensive private LAC), because it seemed necessary due to the vast difference in chances of acceptance between ED and RD. Our family owns a business but it isn't doing great and financial aid is needed, especially because it will be the first time we have more than one kid in (another) expensive private LAC at the same time. The financial aid calculators for this (ED2) college as well as all others show we would get decent financial aid, but it is commonly talked about that those calculators are often very inaccurate when the family owns a business. Specific to this (ED2) college now, I have now heard that at least this (the ED2) college may be terrible for financial aid for those who own businesses ; and that the (ED2 college) financial aid calculator is VERY inaccurate with regard to that college's calculator and people who own a business. One never knows, but I really think my kid has a high chance of an ED2 acceptance to this college because it's really a very obvious strong fit (as I believe shines out in the application that was submitted as well as the interview that was done) and all the stats are a match. It's premature to worry before acceptance and actually seeing what (if any) financial aid will be offered.........but I can't help it. The older siblings were able to go to their top choice (expensive private LAC) colleges without hinderance of financial aid concerns. I know that we can back out of the ED commitment if the financial aid offer is not good. But the thing is, this is the first time our family has every applied for financial aid for any of our kids at any college (the others attended as the only one kid in college at the time, and the owned business was doing much better). So, we'll have no way to know if the financial aid offers would be better at any of the other schools applied to RD. Again - before anyone starts burning me for allowing an ED2 application if financial issues were a concern, the reason is because for this college there is a HUGE difference in ED chances of acceptance versus RD chances, and honestly I believe there likely will be an acceptance via ED but that there would have been virtually no chance of an acceptance RD.........and it is the top preferred/top fit school for my kid, by very far. AND.........we actually didn't realize how much the financial aid would be needed until very recently, as well as it only just now came to my attention how inaccurate the financial aid calculator for this school may be for those who own a business. If the acceptance comes but with lousy (or no) financial aid offered, is there any way anyone has managed to get a situation where the ED acceptance could be changed to release the commitment before financial aid is known for the RD colleges that will come in around 6 weeks later? Any way to delay the commitment acceptance for 6 weeks without withdrawing all the other applications, due specifically to the financial aid situation? I know the answer is probably no. But thought someone out there may have some ideas (I'm desperate). The thing is , we know it's always possible to do something insane like borrow a PLUS loan for any amount needed, but I do feel that would be crazy and definitely not worth it if another decent college that was applied to RD would be much more generous. But it would break my heart to say no to this kid's top choice for money reasons when the older siblings got to go to their equally expensive top choices- I know, life isn't fair, but usually us parents want to treat our kids fairly and equally, and this kid really deserves it! :(

Hi! I want to apply to some schools like Vassar, Barnard, Tulane, etc. but my parents have no money saved up for college. They make around $155,000 a year but don’t want to help me pay. Could I potentially get pretty good grants at these schools and help get my cost below $20,000 annually??

Hi, My son applied for under grad. at Johns Hopkins, initially we didn't apply for financial aid as family friend who recently graduated from there suggested we will not qualify. When he submitted application form, he selected "NO" for the question for financial aid if we intend to apply. Later on we found in order to apply for merit base, it's same process. We have to apply for need base. Is it ok to apply now although initially he denied in the application form? Should he inform admission officer after applying for financial aid ? Please advice, Thanks

Early Decision/Financial aid question

Hi -- I'm the parent of a Junior. We probably won't qualify for any financial aid for the small Northeast LACs we are looking at, but we might get a little. Are you at a disadvantage if you apply for any aid on an early decision application? (Not looking at Ivies but various little Ivies) Is there a clear way to see how they calculate parental assets? Thanks!

NCP Waiver: Statement from the Applicant

Hello! I'm trying to write about my situation in the "statement from the applicant" section, but I don't know what tone is expected... does anyone know where I can find legitimate sample statements? (Or, if anyone would be comfortable sharing their statement with me, that would be greatly appreciated!) Thank you!! This entire process sucks so much :')

Financial Aid Timeline for ED Applicants?

I am a current junior considering applying ED next year. If you are admitted ED will you know your financial aid/possible scholarships right away (say, December)? Or do you need to accept blindly and wait until late spring to find out FA? I want to apply to a school ED but I do not want to be given FA information too late. I know that you can "get out" of the binding contract if you cannot pay, but I am concerned that while the school may think we can pay based on numbers, my family will actually not be able to pay. Thank you!

Financial Aid Documents

Hello everyone, I am an International Student and I need to apply for financial aid. The problem is that they ask for official translations of all the documents but mines are in french and I can't translate them without paying around $40 A PAGE. This is impossible for me, as it would cost way to much money. Do you think it will impact my application? Thank you :)

Hi! We are finally at the end of the application process. I have one last question: Do all schools that use the CSS require my W-2s and if not is there a way I can find out which do? Also I see mention of IDOC here -- feeling ignorant but can someone please let me know what IDOC is... Thanks!

Financial aid question

So, my my parents are divorced, I live with my mom who's currently unemployed and on SNAP/welfare benefits. We live in subsidized housing, and she basically lives off of money given to her by my grandparents (essentially, my mom doesn't want to, or plan to, get a job anytime soon). I'm scared that this might affect my financial aid/fafsa process. Considering she hasn't filed taxes in years and is literally living off of untaxed income, how will this affect my chances at receiving aid? I read another thread on here about almost the same situation, and the posts were basically saying the parent was committing welfare fraud...which would affect the child's financial aid. I don't know what to do or how to talk to my mom about this. She's really not the type of person who will...listen. Also another thing is my brother is a senior, and just finished his FAFSA so I don't know how that's going to go. I don't think he got his FAFSA award yet. What should I do? Is all this going to end badly?
